Althion, a water-tech startup based in Hyderabad, has raised ₹3.6 crore in its pre-Series A funding round. The round was primarily led by BioAngels, powered by IAN Group, with additional support from investors such as Arun Seth, Om Manchanda, KNK Venkatraman, and Shubham Rastogi. This fresh capital will enable Althion to expand its innovative water purification solutions, particularly in sectors like healthcare and research, where the quality of water is critical.
Founded in 2017 by Surya Rao, Althion focuses on developing high-purity water systems for industries like healthcare, biotechnology, and electronics. The company’s products are specifically designed to meet the stringent water quality requirements of dialysis centers, research laboratories, and hospitals, ensuring operational efficiency and patient safety.
The newly secured funds will primarily support the production of 40 units of Althion’s tabletop laboratory water purification system. These systems are set to revolutionize water purification in diverse settings by improving accessibility and efficiency. Additionally, Althion plans to use the funds to enhance its kidney dialysis solutions, addressing urgent needs in the healthcare sector.
As part of its growth strategy, Althion also plans to expand its operations with a larger manufacturing facility. This expansion will help the company scale its production capacity, allowing it to meet the growing demand for its products within India and beyond.
Althion’s commitment to innovation is further demonstrated through its proprietary Althion Remote Monitoring System (ARMS), which enables predictive and preventive maintenance of its water purification systems. This system ensures that the equipment operates efficiently, minimizing downtime and maintenance costs while offering a competitive edge in the market.
The startup’s progress is timely, considering the global water crisis and the increasing need for affordable and reliable water purification solutions. With the backing of organizations like BIRAC, C-CAMP, and AIC CCMB, Althion is well-positioned to address the pressing demand for quality water treatment solutions. Furthermore, the company is in the process of obtaining CE marking and USFDA certification, which will open up international markets in Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
Looking ahead, Althion is poised to play a pivotal role in the water-tech sector, with its focus on sustainability, innovation, and healthcare improvement. As it continues to scale its operations, the company aims to make a global impact in the field of water purification and help solve some of the world’s most pressing environmental and health challenges.
